With thanks to my amazing . colleagues and our partners for the tireless work over the past two weeks in Dubai, the work continues...

Significantly, the Global Stocktake, the ratchet mechanism established by the Paris Agreement to identify & "course-correct" for gaps & set out ways forward, has mandated a dialogue on the disproportionate impacts of climate change on children & relevant policy solutions.

This represents the first-ever dedicated attention to heightened vulnerabilities of children within the UNFCCC process, bringing all Parties to the table to understand relevant data, evidence & guidance, such as General Comment No.26 🌏 on

The GST Decision also reaffirms that solutions to the climate crisis must be founded on meaningful and effective social dialogue and participation of all stakeholders, including youth and children.

But the outcome falls short of delivering the most urgent step for upholding children's rights: a fast & equitable phase out of fossil fuels. Nonetheless, by recognizing the need to transition away from fossil fuels, in keeping with the science, it provides a critical signal.

Our work will be to challenge Parties for the strongest possible interpretation of these commitments, and to ensure that loopholes are not exploited.

On the Global Goal on Adaptation, Parties have agreed a framework that embeds thematic targets in child-critical social services of water and sanitation, health, nutrition and social protection.

These targets can support efforts to catalyse adaptation action in areas essential for upholding the rights of the more than one billion children already living in areas facing extremely high climate risk.

The framework also recognizes the need to broaden climate education and to empower people, in particular children and youth, sending a vital signal on the role of the education sector in adaptation efforts.

The GGA framework also calls on Parties to ensure intergenerational equity and social justice, taking into consideration vulnerable groups, including children, youth and persons with disabilities.

The Loss & Damage decision states that funds should target people and communities in climate-vulnerable situations, including children. That's welcome because children are hit first and hardest when disasters strike.

With thanks to my amazing . colleagues and our partners for the tireless work over the past two weeks in Dubai, the work continues...
