We're going to try something new here on the page. I want you to post one thing that you are passionate about, that drives you, that you love. The love of your life, say something below about it/them in words or pictures. I'll start. For me, figuring out how nature works to use light to build everything we observe and experience drives me. The most amazing thing light has built is my nurse. It astounds me that as light slowed down here on Earth by crashing into some atoms in a specific way, a creature like her could be created. You know you've found an amazing relationship when you can't fall asleep because your reality exceeds your dreams. And in the memories of those dreams, you recollect desires to be the air that enters her lungs and is exhaled. Its atoms sustained her colony of mitochondria for just that moment, but it becomes the atoms that also fuel you. In that wonder, your goal is to be unnoticed by her but simultaneously necessary to sustain her. A coupled oscillating system in decentralized harmony.

In turn, she does things every day that exceed your imagination, your forgetting, your opiate, your complete oblivion..........All these thoughts about this also came from Starlight. Shocking but true.

Sunlight has made love a human remedy in life. I must understand it fully before my "pilot light" goes out. Light organizes matter, but the type of light, the spectrum of this light from a source, has its own unique ability to sculpt atoms in specific ways to create new things from its inherent organizing ability. This ability hidden deep within the light is the key to understanding life and love. It provides change without the perception of change. The thing that shows up every morning, which is most familiar, remains the most mysterious force in the Universe. That force organized every life system and every feeling of love that has ever existed. Matter exists to make love to light, to separate its electric and magnetic fields in ways that we do not understand, and from this dance, light can sculpt a life, make a child, and create a new species. Everything man has known comes from the mysterious moves of our star’s light as it fell to this wet, rocky planet. It is sheer amazement to me.

Living systems are nests of abiotic carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, together with traces of a few other elements, yet of a complexity of structure that has hitherto resisted all attempts at complete analysis because we do not understand how light and water bind and weave the process of atoms in things. This makes our protoplasm the most enduring and the most easily destroyed of substances we know; its molecules are constantly programmed electronically by light to break down constantly, yet reorganize under solar power to furnish the power for the manifestations of many vital phenomena. Yet, through its remarkable property of assimilation of light, a power possessed by few other things on earth, it constantly builds up its substance anew from the surrounding medium, and it avoids our perception of its recipe. 8. Melatonin is the key to mitochondrial wellness and every cell's health. The food gurus, nootropics nuts, and biochemists never tell you with melanin in tissues, melatonin is impotent to help us.

Why is taking melatonin supplements (or any other endogenously made molecule) detrimental?
The human body is meant to absorb all the frequencies of sunlight during the day and then at night time, during darkness, cells release varying amounts of ELF-UV to conduct and control cellular metabolism. If the spectrum is not intact, melatonin is rendered useless.

Melatonin is made via various UV light frequencies in different organs and cells in the body and has a huge range of functions depending on the frequencies of light and the cell that created it. Melatonin MUST have darkness after sunset to work appropriately in cells and be recycled daily. Simply flooding your body with artificially created melatonin via your gut will not produce tightly controlled and favorable effects because those effects are controlled by specific frequencies of light and darkness at very specific times of the day and night. Same for Vitamin D3 and many other endogenously created hormones/molecules that are made via light signals. If you take supplemental melatonin AND expose yourself to artificial light, you can permanently destroy your retina because of the way DHA & melatonin must work together.
Light photons affect biology via interaction with electrons that lift the electrons to higher energy states, and when they drop back to the ground level, they release energy to semiconductors = DHA, water, NADH & collagen. These semiconductors move energy throughout the body. Melatonin controls when they release this energy based on circadian rhythms = light/dark. Anytime energy from light is transformed, melatonin will be present locally to control the timing. DHA in cell membranes converts sunlight into DC electric current and then back into different light frequencies when BLUE LIGHT is ABSENT. Blue light destroys melatonin and DHA. In fact, every nonvisual photoreceptor in man. This destroys physiology.

Melatonin obtains the sun’s signal via neuropsin in the eye and skin. Neuropsin responds to daily varying frequencies of UVA and violet (up to 400nm) sunlight that provide different signals in the morning and the afternoon. Melatonin is made first in the mitochondrial RPE, skin, and then the colony of mitochondria surrounding blood plasma via sunlight. It is not made in the gut where supplements go. The melatonin in the eye signals the SCN (master clock), the mitochondrial colony, and eventually the pituitary & pineal to create and secrete hormones. Melatonin that arrives via the gut has no circadian rhythm control.
Melatonin and neuropsin production & cycling are hampered by anything that covers the eyes or skin or lack of sunlight/darkness because UVA & violet light are needed to make them, and their production, use, and recycling are coupled with each other. When you take melatonin supplements, you uncouple this relationship and impair everything else that melatonin and neuropsin do in cells.
The precursor of melatonin is serotonin = another biogenic amine made from UV light and the aromatic amino acid tryptophan. Melatonin is made from serotonin at night after 2-4 hours of darkness using 337nm of light released by cells. 90% of serotonin is made by the gut microbiome, releasing light to the enterochromaffin cells in the gut. It is stored in the first 20% of the small intestine and then released at night time when there is no digestion/eating. Eating affects the gut microbiome (if it is diverse & healthy) and releases 337nm UV light to tryptophan to make serotonin. Tryptophan must be photo-activated to make the correct amounts of serotonin at the correct times of the day = eat during daylight hours only. Simply swallowing tryptophan will only result in appropriate conversion if the microbiome releases the light at the correct times. The amount of light released by the microbiome determines how much serotonin is made = controlled by circadian rhythms. If your microbiome and gut cells are not healthy, melatonin is not made appropriately = which is why most diseases begin with gut problems.
Melatonin made in the brain uses serotonin stored in the small intestine that travels to the brain via the vagus nerve and autonomic plexus to the pineal gland where cells release ELF-UV light to methylate serotonin and convert it to melatonin. This can only occur when the gut is not performing peristalsis AND there is no blue light being detected by the eyes = night time eating and ALAN decrease melatonin and cause accumulation of unused serotonin = poor dreaming and low REDOX.
Pyridoxal phosphate is another popular supplement that is a co-factor for melatonin production. Pyridoxal phosphate absorbs 330-340nm light = it is a photoactive chromophore and light activation is critical to its function. Simply swallowing this as a supplement does not guarantee it will be activated by light if cells are dysfunctional.
Melatonin is a photoreceptor with two photon traps that absorbs VARYING frequencies of UV light from 240-300nm. These varying frequencies are why melatonin is a pleiotropic hormone that has a broad range of functions (autocrine, paracrine and endocrine) daily, monthly & seasonally and the exact light frequencies that activate it determines its function in:
Sleep
Cell regeneration, especially ALL PHOTORECEPTORS that are destroyed by blue light.
Determines mitochondrial energy production via interaction with nitric oxide/UVA and vitamin D receptor
Acts as a supreme antioxidant and free radical scavenger
Antagonises cortisol and aromatase to decrease sex steroids in tissue
Stimulates immune function and controls inflammation via WBC, eicosanoids, LOX and DHA
Key substance in the chronobiological adaptation of every cell
Controls mitochondrial function.
Melatonin has 4 ESSENTIAL functions in mitochondria:
Controls energy metabolism & flux via control of electron and proton tunneling;
REDOX balance
Ion homeostasis
Signaling of cell death, mitophagy (heteroplasmy).
Melatonin regenerates tissue via mitochondrial triplet free radical ROS that limit ELF-UV light release in stressed cells. Stressed cells release varying amounts of ELF-UV to activate DNA expression. Very sick cells release a lot of light. Endogenously made melatonin is the antidote and decreases stress response and DNA expression.
Melatonin protects cell membranes and macromolecules = lipids, proteins, mitochondrial DNA and nuclear DNA from oxidative damage via its actions as a free radical scavenger of hydroxyl free radicals, hydrogen peroxide, singlet oxygen, nitric oxide, peroxynitrite anion & peroxynitrous acid = electron donor that carry light information.
Melatonin is also an INDIRECT antioxidant that activates antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase and catalase.
Melatonin controls and protects the 13 mitochondrial genes from mutations = mitochondrial heteroplasmy that leads to suboptimal offspring & chronic disease. Mitochondrial heteroplasmy directly affects telomerase in nuclear chromosomes and epigenetic gene expression via mitonuclear coaptation. During proper sleep in darkness cells are ketotic and this increases NAD+ (not supplements) and increased electron tunnelling from fat burning increases magnetic flux into mitochondria to increase oxygen delivery to decrease pseudo hypoxia and release superoxide from cytochrome I to decrease heteroplasmy and regenerate tissue during sleep.
Haemoglobin and porphyrins in RBC absorb UV & IR sunlight. WBC make melatonin using neuropsin. When melatonin is low in eye, brain and blood plasma inflammation occurs and epithelial cancers, kidney disease, metabolic syndrome, autoimmunity, seizures, anaemia, neurodegeneration are more likely.
Melatonin produced by the pineal goes to portal circulation and acts as a neurohormone = learning/behaviour/mental illness/neurodegeneration. This melatonin regulates inflammatory immune responses both activating and deactivating via LOX enzymes, eicosanoids and leptin. Leptin, melanin, and melatonin are the three most important neurohormones on which all the other hormones depend.
UVA light also makes thyroid hormones to control energy metabolism and fertility via leptin. UV light and temperature vary to control metabolism and fertility seasonally.
Intermittent fasting and cold increases melatonin when UV light is absent if circadian rhythms are intact & you are connected to the earth's magnetic field daily = high latitude low UV seasonal signals.
Melatonin regenerates photoreceptors that are destroyed by melanopsin/retinol dysfunction. Photoreceptors in the body are not limited to the 7 known opsin proteins used for vision and clock control. Any molecule with benzene ring photon traps are photoreceptors such as;
all HEME proteins eg RBC and mitochondrial cytochromes
catalase that quenches hydrogen peroxide in cells
biogenic amines melatonin, serotonin, melanin and dopamine
nitric oxide
Vitamins A, B, E, and D
