The new Beverly Hills Cop is pretty decent. Nothing amazing but it's fun. The interesting part to me though is that it mostly just feels like a normal sequel and isn't filled with nonstop callbacks and references like a lot of modern sequels to older movies are EXCEPT... (1/3)
when it comes to the music choices, specifically in the first 20 minutes. They crammed every popular recognizable song from the first two movies into the first act and it's super distracting. Feels like a late-in-editing decision for algorithm purposes or something. (2/3)
Like someone at Netflix found that research indicates that if they front-loaded the movie with nostalgia (which isn't present in what was actually filmed), it will retain watch time by approximately 3.6% so cram in all those needle drops ASAP! Just odd. (3/3)
