AI Summary

At 36, I'd tell my 18-year-old self to question mainstream advice, build habits like daily writing, focus on strength, and take more risks. I'd cut out negativity, travel more, connect with community, and own my life. It's never too late to learn, grow, and change—your future self will thank you.

I'm 36.

If I were 18 again, here are the 36 things I'd do differently:

1. Realize college is a scam.

2. Avoid relationships that had no chance of a marriage outcome.

3. Build a habit of writing daily.

4. Prioritize more weight training and less running.

5. Unlearn the food pyramid and everything else I was taught about nutrition.

6. Bet on myself as often as possible.

7. Cut negative people out of my life.

8. Watch less professional sports.

9. Prioritize protein at every meal.

10. Start a small business even if I had no idea what I was doing.

11. Never stop physically competing.

12. Spend more time outdoors.

13. Consistently question my own beliefs and the narrative.

14. Learn to do as many things with my hands as possible.

15. Explore more of my passions and less of what was safe and secure.

16. Understand sound money.

17. Take daily walks without distraction.

18. Invest in myself and my skills instead of just a portfolio.

19. Stop eating cereal for breakfast.

20. Spend time around as many different careers as possible.

21. Prioritize consistent action over planning.

22. Chase freedom of time rather than trading time for money.

23. Use social media to create more and consume less.

24. Travel as much as possible.

25. Realize my social life doesn’t have to involve alcohol.

26. Focus on networking rather than grades and memorization in school.

27. Find like minded men who challenge me and hold me accountable.

28. Eliminate negative self talk from holding me back.

29. Stop worrying about what people think and understand that no one is actually paying attention to you.

30. Get daily sunshine.

31. Connect with a church community.

32. Spend time daily in The Bible.

33. Take advantage of free education.

34. View risk as an opportunity and take more of it.

35. Find my own answers instead of trusting "experts."

36. Take full responsibility for my life because no one is coming to save me.

You can't turn back the clock but you can challenge yourself to learn new skills, get out of your comfort zone, and think for yourself.

You will look back a year from now as I do and not recognize the person you once were.

It's never too late to get started.
