This thread warns that the left, especially woke activists and institutions, see compromise as betrayal and want society to constantly hunt for oppression. As woke ideas lose popularity, a fight within the Democratic Party between moderates and radicals could cause a civil war, with moderates hoping to take control before the woke faction dominates.
1/
I think the left is about to have a civil war.
Left leaning institutions (universities, think tanks, NGO's, non-profits, consulting firms, and the democratic party) are staffed by woke activists who see woke political goals as moral imperatives, not mere political preferences
2/
According to woke ideology, anyone who in not actively advocating for woke social and political objectives is "complicit" in the systemic oppression of marginalized groups. On this view, a political compromise with people who oppose wokeness is like cutting a deal with Hitler.
3/
The woke have a concept called the "unbearable searchlight of complicity." It's their term for constant, unending, hypervigilant searching for anything complicit with "systems of oppression" (racism, sexism, etc)
It's the conceptual equivalent of an all seeing eye of wokeness
4/
The unbearable searchlight of complicity looks around at every aspect of society for even the slightest hint of anything that's complicit with any system or structure the woke think is oppressive
And according to wokeness complicity in systemic oppression is the greatest evil
5/
The entire point of woke ideology is to apply the unbearable searchlight of complicity to all of society, to find for even the slightest hint of inequality, racism, transphobia, etc and eradicate it.
Asking them to compromise is asking them to reject the entire point of woke
6/
The entire point of woke is that there can be no compromise because compromise is complicity. They CAN'T moderate because moderation would be to in some way accept the terms or aims of the very system that they think needs to be torn up root and branch and dismantled.
7/
As wokeness is becomes increasingly unpopular this strategy is going to cause woke candidates to lose, and repeated losses are going to make the centrists, moderates, liberals, and normies to become frustrated with the woke and to demand that someone else be put in charge.
8/
The woke are not going to give control of the democrat party to moderates (asking woke activists to let moderates run the democrat party is like asking and Christians to put an atheist in charge of their church) even when Democrats start losing elections over woke issues.
9/
When moderate dems are get tired of losing elections because of wokeness, they are going to want someone else to be put in charge of the party. The woke will refuse to step aside, and this is when the civil war will start.
Rumblings are already beginning to emerge...
10/
The Nate Silver/Matt Yglesias/John Fetterman style democrats are already lining up and asking for moderation. The AOC/Cory Bush/BLM wing of the democrats will line up pushing for more wokeness, and then it's going to be a battle for the soul of the Democrat party.
11/
This result will be that sometime in the next 5 years the democrats are going to go through the same things the Tepublican party went through from 2015-2020 where the MAGA faction (with help from the old Tea Party conservatives) took over the party
12/
I am not sure what the catalyzing event will be, but sometime soon things are going to boil over and we will see a battle for the sould of the Democrat Party.
Let us pray the moderates win.
