Green Councillors discussed many issues today, like increasing social security support, fixing housing with Tourist Tax funds, and banning short-term lets without planning. They asked about pavement parking, air pollution, and the Tram Inquiry, emphasizing walking and cycling. They also want to help people claim benefits more easily.
It's Full Council day, and Green Cllrs are involved in items on increasing social security take-up💶; spending Tourist Tax funds on housing 💷🏘️; Boycott, Divestment + Sanctions; Short Term Lets 🏡; the Melville Statue; tackling crime through prevention, and the Tram Inquiry 🚊
Green Councillors have pressed the Council Leader on a range of issues. First up was @AlysGreens, on the 'Green' Freeport's impact on cheap fossil fuel energy imports
Our transport spokesperson, @julebandel , pressed the Council Leader on when the pavement parking ban will be enforced, and how unnecessary car use is being discouraged
Later, @CllrChasBooth asked the Leader to confirm that all short term lets where a change of use has occurred will need to apply for planning consent
And with so many diesel generators used to power the Christmas market rides and other attractions, @CllrBenParker asked about air pollution monitoring there
The Council debated its response to the Tram Inquiry today. The Green addendum moved by @julebandel to ensure walking, wheeling and cycling are fully considered when designing future transport infrastructure projects, was passed.
We need to do much more to help people claim the social security payments they are entitled to. @CllrDanHeap's motion on this has just been passed by Councillors unanimously
