Some details unconfirmed, but it would be incredible news if Evan Gershkovich, Paul Whelan, Vladimir Kura-Murza and others are being released by Russia. One of the Russians traded for their freedom seems to be Alexander Vinnik, a familiar name for followers of crypto crime.👇

Vinnik pleaded guilty to running BTC-e, a exchange that handled enormous flows of criminal crypto payments. He's also been tied to the theft of 650,000 bitcoins from Mt. Gox (most of which were laundered through BTC-e) by some measures still the biggest crypto theft in history.

If you read my book Tracers in the Dark you know the federal agent who led the work to take down Vinnik was Tigran Gambaryan, who is now being held in a Nigerian prison. Ironic and sad that Vinnik might get out before Tigran. Time to bring Tigran home.
