🧵I can't believe this election is even close, but we have less than two weeks left to save democracy. As well as everything else we're doing to help Kamala Harris defeat Trump, we need to change the conversation around us. Here is my thread on how.

🧵I think there are at least two possible categories of persuadable voters: 1) the low-info types who just haven't been paying attention, and might not even vote. 2) Lifetime Republicans who don't care for MAGA or Trump

🧵There are a gazillion reasons why Kamala Harris is obviously the better choice, but I think we should focus on two: The economy, and Trump's character, and the imminent threat he poses to our country.

🧵Our economy is literally the envy of the world, and the people who don't understand how anything works think Biden Harris did a bad job with it because groceries cost more than they did before the pandemic. We need to try to get the truth through to people.

🧵There was GLOBAL inflation due to the GLOBAL pandemic, and most of Europe and the rest of the world is still struggling with it. And THEY ALL WISH THEY HAD OUR PRESIDENT AND HIS ECONOMIC POLICIES BECAUSE WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER OFF!

🧵Remind people comparing today to 2019 that when Biden-Harris took over we were one year into the pandemic. Businesses were closed, unemployment was high, and economists were predicting a recession for the first two years. Biden walked into a disaster.

🧵People keep forgetting this. Remind them. People need to understand both how good this economy is, and why it feels like it isn't.

🧵 Things felt better before a pandemic that none us ever expected to see. Then the economy collapsed. Biden has done an amazing job, and groceries will never go back to 2019 levels no matter who is president.

🧵Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (which also happens to be the greatest investment in infrastructure in decades and in advancing clean energy technology in world history) our recovery is astounding! It is quite literally the envy of the world.

🧵Every day we get more great economic news. And what do economists say about Trump's policies? That they're going to cause a lot more inflation and are generally a terrible idea.

🧵Trump wants to undo everything good that Biden-Harris have done, and put really dumb and economically disastrous policies in place instead.

🧵Trump promised infrastructure for four years, and did nothing. Thanks to Biden-Harris we have new and much needed projects going on all over the country, providing great new jobs and growing the economy. Trump would undo it all out of spite.

🧵And now it's up to us to convince the people who don't get it that this is an impressive and remarkable economy, and Biden-Harris deserve credit for pulling us out of a global economic disaster and giving us the greatest economy in the world.

🧵AGAIN, PRICES ARE NEVER GOING BACK TO 2019 LEVELS NO MATTER WHO IS PRESIDENT! Anyone who thinks otherwise really doesn't understand how anything works. Please help people see this. Biden deserves a freaking medal, not a bunch of whining about grocery prices.

🧵Other complaints like the high cost of housing are primarily a result of long-term Republican policies, starting way before Trump. The GOP always fights to give advantages to billionaires and huge corporations so they can continue screwing us little guys.

🧵Then when Dems can't fix every problem decades of GOP policies have created after one term, people blame them and then either switch parties or don't vote. And again, they blame the party in power instead of the party that enacts terrible policies that take awhile to take

🧵So while you're out there helping people see how amazing this economy really is, it's time to start dispelling the myth that Republicans are better for the economy. They never have been. Read this thread.

🧵And here's my long thread on the current state of the economy:

🧵Here's a conversation starter for you: ask people, "Do you know why people think Republicans are better for the economy when in reality the exact opposite is true?"

🧵Once you have their attention, see if you can get this simple truth through to them. The economy doesn't change instantly because the president or the party in power changes. The economy (to the extent that a president or party controls it) changes because of policy.

🧵 And policies take time. First it always takes at least a year to pass new policy. Then it takes a year or two to even start implementing it. And then it takes another couple of years before we really start seeing the economic effects of the policy.

🧵So if you want to know who to credit or blame for the economy, look back four to six years and see who was in charge then. This is not complicated. Everyone should be able to grasp it. Then look at the pattern:

🧵Clinton took over after Reagan and Bush put us into recession. Eight years later he handed over a booming economy to Dubya, who did what every Republican president does: tax cuts for billionaires and deregulation allowing businesses to screw over consumers.

🧵By the end of Dubya's term we had economic disaster again. Then Obama took over and spent a few years fixing it, finally handing over a booming economy to Trump, who, of course, promptly took credit for it and spent three years bragging about it.

🧵Trump did the same GOP policy disasters as his predecessors, tax cuts for billionaires, and nothing that helps us regular people. Think you saved $200 on your taxes? Trust me, you paid that and more in so many other ways.

🧵There were already signs of economic trouble ahead when the pandemic hit. And then the inflation started while Trump was still in office, but we were so worried about finding toilet paper and seeing empty shelves, that we didn't think that much about it yet.

🧵Trump was not "good" for the economy. He was good at taking credit for everything positive and deflecting blame for everything else. Sure, things "felt better" before the pandemic. Of course they did. None of us were ready for a global pandemic and the insecurity it brought.

🧵(Well, tbf, the Obama admin WAS ready for a global pandemic. They had a plan. But Trump threw that plan out, didn't do any of the things that would've helped, and then lied to us for a year. Subsequently hundreds of thousands of people died.)

🧵Remember this from Clinton's convention speech? Out of 51 million new jobs created since the end of the cold war, 50 million were created under Democrats, and only 1 million under Republicans.

🧵Dems have been better for the economy for decades, but they don't get the credit because people don't stop and think about the time it takes for policies to be implemented and start working.

🧵Also make sure everyone knows that stimulus check with Trump's signature didn't come from him. That was courtesy of Democratic Congress because most Republicans voted against it, and it came out of the US Treasury funds.
