This is Dr Ella Cockbain, an Associate Professor at UCL.
In 2013, two years after The Times first reported on grooming in Rotherham, Dr Ella Cockbain published “Grooming and the ‘Asian sex gang predator’”, in which she described Asian grooming gangs as a ‘moral panic’.
In this publication Ella stated that ‘the greatest effrontery about grooming is not the abuse of children but the interracial sex itself’.
In a separate publication, Dr Ella Cockbain casts The Times as a ‘right-wing broadsheet’, and points out that it is owned by Rupert Murdoch.
In the same publication she states that the focus on Asian men abusing White girls could mean the needs of ethnic minorities are overlooked.
Dr Ella Cockbain has written for the Guardian four times since 2012. Three of these four articles explicitly deny the racialised aspect of grooming gangs.
As an Associate Professor, Ella is almost certainly a band 9 on the UCL pay scale, meaning she is earning at least 65k+ in her post (inc London weighting).
