See, the so-called 'public safety committee' will be holding hearings to advance a bill which would ERASE THE GANG DATABASE for New York.
That's right, as our city reels from gang violence, organized retail theft, transnational criminal organizations, and the federal government moves to designate many of these gangs as terrorist groups due to their extreme violence and significant resources, progressives on the City Council are working overtime to ensure these violent criminals continue to have free reign over out city.
Intro 0798-2024 would require the destruction of the gang database and prohibit by law any iteration of it from being created in the future. It would also notify gang members of their inclusion on the database and provide them with their records -- AND give them the right to sue the city over it.
This is what matters to progressives -- making sure that criminals not only act with impunity, but also giving them a path to major lawsuits to enrich themselves with our tax money.
None of this makes us safer. Quite the opposite. But they don't care. They don't care about law abiding citizens, they don't care about public safety, they don't care about who they hurt.
Understand, if you're a regular working-class individual, progressives don't care if you're dead or alive. It's really just that simple. There is no other way to explain any of this.
There are violent gang members operating RIGHT NOW all over the city. In Times Square, in our migrant hotels, in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. This impacts every community in every neighborhood. And it's getting worse.
Erasing the gang database will frankly be a nuclear bomb on law enforcement. Police will lose one of their most important tools for understanding and building cases against the criminal networks which operate here. It will thwart our efforts to target the worst and most violent recidivists in the city, from shoplifting to extortion to fentanyl to murder-for-hire to human trafficking. Everything will become more difficult and dangerous. Catastrophic isn't even a strong enough word.
But again, progressives just DON'T CARE.
Remember this next time they're crying about the 'chaos' supposedly caused by Republicans.
And here's the thing -- this disgraceful bill already has 24 co-sponsors on the Council. They only need two more to pass it into law. And you can bet they'll get those votes.
You need to call EVERY Council Member who has not yet signed onto this bill and tell them you're AGAINST Intro 0798.
But even that's not enough. It's time for the federal government to step in here in a BIG way and thwart these lunatics in their effort to destroy what's left of our city.
