I’ve kept this to myself (at least for now), but I thought I’d tweet into the abyss. A few months ago, I placed a blessed green scapular inside a vase in my grandparents’ home when my grandma’s health started aggressively declining. My hope was for their conversion.

My grandma appeared to have converted on her deathbed (if not sooner). Praise be to God! I decided to have a green scapular (a different one) cremated with my grandma (as burning is proper disposal).

When my grandpa asked what it was, I just told him it was an image of Mary & how Grandma seemed to have a fondness for her by having a portrait of her in the home & that she gifted me a statue of who she thought was Mary (it was a generic angel).

Grandpa Ron is a non-believer (but won’t call himself an atheist) & I wasn’t in the headspace to explain the purpose of the green scapular. I thought it would fall on deaf ears or creep out my non-Catholic family anyway. Maybe it would have. Maybe it wouldn’t have.

Anyway, the very vase in which I placed the original green scapular is what my grandpa chose as an urn to hold my grandma’s remains until he decides what to do next. I do not know if he found it or has any idea where it came from.

But that may explain the perplexed look on his face when he asked me about the green scapular I set on the table of photos, letters & memories to keep with Grandma. Please join me in praying for Grandpa Ron’s conversion as well 🙏🏻💚
